Denver Water Lawn Irrigation Ban Effective October 1, 2026
Due to continuing drought conditions, Denver Water has formally ended the 2026 lawn-watering season effective October 1, 2026.
This notice is to ensure that all residents are aware of the new requirements and can make the necessary adjustments to their irrigation systems. Residents may continue to hand water established trees, shrubs, and other plantings. Spray irrigation may not be used for these plants. Watering should also be conducted outside Denver Water's restricted 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. period.
- Watering of lawns and grass is prohibited.
- Sprinkler and irrigation systems may not be used to water grass.
- Hand-watering grass is also prohibited
- These restrictions remain in effect until Denver Water takes further action
The restriction applies to all types of grass, including traditional turfgrass and low-water-use or native grasses, unless a specific exception or approved Denver Water permit applies.
ENFORCEMENT
Lawn watering after September 30 is considered an unauthorized use of water under Denver Water's amended drought resolution. Violations may be subject to Denver Water enforcement actions and penalties, including fines of up to $1,000 and other measures authorized under Denver Water's rules.
